He (Mr. Buffett) points to drivers using their phones behind the wheel or otherwise not paying attention to the road. “Distracted driving…was listed for about 10% of the deaths in 2014,” Buffett told CNBC two weeks ago. “I’ll bet that number went up a fair amount.”
Buffett noted that deaths per 100-million-miles driven also increased. The auto insurer Geico, owned by Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway, saw its underwriting profit more than halve last year as the frequency of auto accidents went up.
