It appears that internet use geographically with Southeast Asia (including the Philippines) at 33% still has more room to grow compared to the global average of 42% and Oceana (including Australia) with 69%
Same opportunity is seen in the potential growth in internet penetration with 25% in Southeast Asia compared to the first world countries (mainly North America, Western Europe, Japan, and Australia)
Net connection speed is far less in the Philippines with only 2.5 Mbps compared with global average of 4.5 Mbps.
Despite the slowness, Philippine internet users spend the MOST time (compared to ALL OTHER COUNTRIES) in the internet. 6.3 hours per day when using a laptop or desktop, and 3.3 hours per day with a mobile phone.
Telstra’s CEO Andrew Penn once mentioned, “Let’s face it – go to the Philippines, experience for yourself the sort of lousy service you get from the incumbent operators and you will see that the opportunity there for new operators to provide a much better quality service over an LTE network using better spectrum,”
He is exactly right on this.
In one aspect, the Philippines has an ample room to grow in terms of increasing its active 3G and 4G mobile connections.
Lastly, the Philippines, next to Argentina, spend the most time in Social Media when online; 4.3 hours per day compared to the global average of 2.4 hours.
